RE-ENROLLMENT for 2012-2013

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your support in SCHOOL OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY CC.

Due to limited space for the upcoming year, we ask each parent/guardian to fill out this re-enrollment form completely.

This application form is designed for currently enrolled students. The closing date for this application is Friday, January 27, 2011.

Applications received unsigned,incomplete, or after the closing date may not be considered for next year.

SST Young Scientists Cleaned Up Costal Bend Science Fair Competition

24th Annual Coastal Bend Regional Science Fair

School of Science and Technology Students showcased their hard work and determination as they collected 17 awards on January 21, 2012 at the Costal Bend Science Fair. Their ambition to achieve is evident in their success and pursuit of advance learning opportunities. We are proud of our winners, parents, and teachers!

9th grade -Yoseph Mahmoud – 1st place in Life Science and 3rd place in best category from the Senior Division

David Silva Wins School-Wide Spelling Bee

David Silva, 6B, was the last competitor standing at the SST School-Wide Spelling Bee held on January 18th. Twenty-eight contestants in 1st-8th Grade went head-to-head to determine who was the best speller in the school. After five rounds, eleven spellers still remained in the competition. By round 10, only 5 spellers remained. Samantha Marroquin, 8th Grade, held on until the 11th round to receive 3rd place. Semanur Karayaka, 6th Grade, and David Silva battled for two rounds in a spell-off to determine who would represent SST at the city-wide spelling bee at the Solomon Oritiz Center on February 25, 2012. David claimed the title of School Champion after spelling the 147th word of the competition, muscular.

Congratulations to all the contestants on a job well done!


International Festival

Come one come all to the First Annual School of Science and Technology International Festival! This festival will take place on Saturday, March 31 at the school from 11 am until 4 pm.The festival is a celebration of international countries and traditions as translated by our students. All profits from this event will go towards the school's fund.

The festival will occur in three parts:
–Performances by students, parents and community members
–Traditional food for sale created by parent volunteers
–Children's play area including a moon jump and carnival games
In the next month please expect our students to be working extra hard on their knowledge of the classroom country. They will be looking for parent assistance for cooking food, practicing dance or song routines, and quizzing them on the history or governmental issues of their country.

The PVO is looking for assistance in gaining donations for everything from food to silent auction items. Please contact Ms. Murray if you would like to help. She can be reached at mcochran@ssttx.org.

SST Paintball Event

Our school will be having our first paintball party on Saturday, 1/28, 11am-5pm. All students that are at least 10 years old, parents, and staff are welcome to join. If you are interested in participating in this event, get an application from Mr. Gossett. Please register as early as you can so we can get the proper supplies and staff reserved for our group. School-Wide Spelling Bee Set for Wednesday, January 18th

The 28 finalists from the November's Classroom Spelling Bees will be competing for the #1 spot in the school on Wednesday, January 18th at 1:30 P.M. The competition will be held in the cafeteria and will last until only one speller remains. That speller will advance to the City-Wide Spelling Bee on February 25th. Family and friends are welcome to attend.


3rd Annual Science Fair was a big success!

The 3rd Annual School Wide Science Fair was a great success at School of Science And Technology. The students had a chance to present projects that they have been preparing since the beginning of the school year. Digital Storytelling Contest (DISTCO 2012)

DISTCO 2012 is part of a series of “Digital Storytelling Contests". DISTCO 2012 is an online contest where Students and Teachers in K-12 are invited to submit their original digital stories between November 28, 2011 and January 27, 2012. Pleace check our website at distco.org for complete timeline and rules. The project has certain benefits for both students and teacher. It is a way of exposing and challenging the students in a competition where they can show their certain skills in multimedia, technology, researching, writing and creativity. SST BEST Robotics Shine in Kingsville

Abut 300 students from across South Texas put their minds together as they gear up for the Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology robotics competition last Saturday , October 22 at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
SST Robotics Team made great success in this competiton.School got
1st place in Web Design
1st place in Oral Presantation
3rd place in Ovreall BEST Award categories.
We congratulate our team members Alejandra Mena,Huseyin Demir,Matthew Mora ,Peter Castaneda, and Jasson Lopez for their hard work.Way to go SST…


SENATOR HINOJOSA ACKNOWLEDGED LAUREN HALL

Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa accepted Laruen Hall, one of our 8th Graders, to his office to acknowledge her accomlishments in Broadcom MASTERS Competition on Wednesday, October 12, 2011. Lauren had become one of the 30 National Finalist on the competition and represented our state in Washington DC. Lauren has been awarded by the Masschussette Institute of Technology (MIT) with a planet named after herself.
